Hey everyone, the Sugarbird Manor is like heaven. It is so beautiful here in the Devon Valley with all the vineyards and rolling hills. We went out to eat last night at 96 Winery Rd. restaurant. We’ve been sampling a lot of interesting things….gemsbok, springbok, ostrich, oxtail, linefish, sweetbreads…all the food has been excellent. This morning we woke up to a beautiful sunrise and we saw some spectacular birds. Pictures to follow. We took a morning hike here on the proteas farm (exotic. flowers grown here at Sugarbird Manor. Next we’re off to a private tasting at Reynecke vineyard. Win USA this afternoon!!!!

Update

Hey everyone, it’s been an amazing several days. Sunday we opted to hike UP Table Mountain as the pictures have shown, it was strenuous but very rewarding, and we were glad to take the cable car down. Monday, we awoke to cloudy skies and eventually rain. We took a bus to the stadium, it rained on us during transport but when we got to the stadium we discovered all of our seats were undercover so we watched the whole game without getting wet despite the heavy downpour during the game, cool, but without rain. It was a surreal experience, thank goodness for earplugs!!!! Monday night we went out to eat after the game and this morning we got up and headed for a 2 day excursion to the winelands. It is so beautiful, all the vineyards with the mountains in the background. We had lunch at Ruste de Vrede Vineyard, a very tranquil setting complete with “vineyard dogs”, followed by a chocolate wine pairing tasting at another vineyard, Then it was on to Sugarbird Manor for our next 2 nights. The views are astounding!!! And now we have vineyard cats!!! Off to a great place to eat tonight and maybe a hike in the morning followed by some wine tastings. It’s GREAT!!!!

We’re having an amazing time! Hiked up Table Mountain today, strenuous but so rewarding. Everything is going great, you don’t have to worry about me being in a stampede, things are way safer than what we thought. I love you and we’ll be posting pictures shortly of our day today.

First Day in Cape Town

Ostrich Jerky!

Hey everyone, we had a very uneventful flight over, long but smooth sailing all the way. Watched the US team get robbed of a win in Heathrow airport along with literally hundreds and hundreds of people from all different parts of the world. Soccer is an amazing sport in that it crosses all these paths of people. We got to Cape Town, picked up our tickets for the games and got our rental cars. Landy & Michael have been driving and they’re doing great. The only thing, Landy keeps turning on the window shield wipers for the blinker in that they’re reversed. The road along the coast looks a lot like Italy. We got all settled in to the villa, we have views of the ocean from the villa. We drove into the little town of Camps Bay and had lunch right on the coast front, we had Indian food, which was great. Then we hit a couple of local groceries and a wine store for some supplies for the villa. We’re back to the villa now watching some soccer and recovering a bit from a little jet lag. Tonight we’re cooking out some ostrich fillets for supper. Table Mountain has been in the clouds all day but down below here it is sunny. We’ll have to see what the weather will be like tomorrow to see what we want to do. We’ll have a couple of options planned out. Monday is our first game to go and see. That’s it for now!

Any of you that have been watching the games thus far no doubt have picked up on a few unique phrases by the English announcers. I’ve started writing them down. Here are a few of my favorites so far. Feel free to add ones you hear!
